In 1991 Louisa County Ambulance was established by a group of volunteers, as a non-profit volunteer organization to provide emergency medical transportation to the sick and injured residents of northern and western Louisa County and southern Muscatine County in Southeastern Iowa. Our mission is to ensure that our communities are provided with the best possible emergency medical care; provide safe and effective transport to the hospital; and sustain and improve the emergency medical system within our service area.

In January 2022, the City of Columbus Junction obtained ownership of Louisa County Ambulance and made Louisa County Ambulance a municipality. This opened more opportunities for Louisa County Ambulance. Louisa County Ambulance has moved to a hybrid service which includes full time and volunteer staff.
